Concrete vs. Abstract Nouns

aa
AA
Concrete nouns, nomi concreti, indicate material things and beings that we can perceive through our five senses. The following nouns are concrete: gatto, libro, piatto, braccia.

Abstract nouns, nomi astratti, indicate feelings, concepts, and qualities that are not immediately perceptible through our five senses. Following are some abstract nouns: amore, stima, cattiveria, odio.

Sometimes the line between abstract and concrete nouns blurs. Take for example partenza, sonnellino, caduta, and corsa. All of the above are obviously perceptible via our senses, but they do not exist in a material substance.
